As a filling and insulation material for apparel and sleeping bags, down boasts an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, a generally high level of heat retention and a small pack size in comparison with other filling materials.
Apparel and sleeping bags with a down filling are especially suited to touring in dry, cold weather, as down not treated with water-repellent coatings is sensitive to moisture. Damp down is not a good insulator and dries slowly.
We guarantee that our down does not come from live plucking or geese kept for foie gras.
- Excellent warmth-to-weight Ratio
- High heat Retention
- Small pack size
Loft: Measured in cubic inches per ounce (cuin). The loft represents how good a filling material is at re-expanding after being compressed. The higher the cu in number is, the higher the ability of the product to expand again and the better its insulating effect.
Down content: The numbers 90/10 or 80/20 give the ratio of down to stabilising feathers. The higher the down content is, the better the heat retention. The higher the proportion of stabilising feathers, the more robust the mix is.
